A quick Q and A with Angela Karnein, the new ALI Media Fellows Programme Assistant!

20 June 2016

angela-karneinPlease tell us about where you are from, what influenced your move?

I spent the past 4 years at Greenpeace Africa. I initially started as an Intern and later grew into the position of Media Officer, this is where my passion for working with the Media flourished. Moving to the ALI Media Fellowship programme is fuel to that passion, it is an opportunity to gain a better understand of Africa’s media landscape and an opportunity to grow and learn.

Who or what inspires you and, in which way?

I intend to cause no offence to the legacies of my child hood hero’s Wangari Maathai, Mahatma Gandhi and the great Nelson Mandela but it seems like my 5-year-old son Ethan Jaden has side-lined them. Being a mother has motivated me to be the best that I can be, it has also pushed me to provide the best that I can. I believe that as a parent I am answerable for my child’s future, I hope to leave behind a meaningful legacy and a gentleman.

How will you measure success in your new position?

Coordinating successful seminars for ALI Media Fellows, seeing them graduate into what the programme had purposed them to be. In future, being able to detect the essence of the ALI Media programme in their work.
