General Manager: Primedia
Karl Gostner holds a Masters degree in Industrial Sociology and has, since 2002, held various leadership roles in media. Previously he worked for five years in Industrial Policy research and consulting. In addition to his formal business role, he is a Certified Integral Coach. In this capacity, he coaches mid-career professionals in a number of sectors. He also mentors a variety of students who participate in Primedia’s Scholarship and Bursary programmes. He has also initiated FutureLeaders, under the LeadSA umbrella; a programme that focuses on leadership training for and conversation with tertiary students.
Gostner’s role at Primedia requires leading innovation and strategy development at the confluence of new and traditional media. His role also requires him to inspire and manage organisational change in order to meet current and future challenges. Gostner mentors and develops talent.
Gostner has been responsible for contributions to the Primedia strategy process in general, as well as specifically in the areas around innovation that has seen the creation of digital and digital content teams. These teams have triggered consistent audience and revenue growth across all of Primedia’s digital properties, whilst winning multiple awards. He has integrated these digital teams into the broader business environment and developed a strong network of service providers in the digital space. Gostner has seen to it that Primedia embeds a user-centred work process driving the digital growth across the Primedia brands. He is also one of the driving forces behind the success and growth of LeadSA.
